Last week I had the great good fortune of house sitting a painters home and studio in the clouds, with Newcastle noisily rumbling past at its feet.
Overseeing the mighty steel and coal port, cargo ships coming and going, storms arriving and leaving almost with the frequency of the ships. A mighty experience and an even money challenger to what was going in the studio itself. Having experienced the painting process on a couple of occasions I had decided that if possible to capture I'd attempt to photograph the studio where Dino Consalvo lets go of everything and his paintings are born.

Carved in Stone and Stuff
There was no limit to the beautiful things we found during our travels in Japan. I think that everything of beauty had the intent at it's heart to be something of beauty.
It was not necessary to go to a gallery to find art. Is it ever?
(Hey and please don't get me wrong and think I am comparing a Japanese art gallery to a toire, I'm just saying that art is where you find it)

Unburied Treasure
Some treasures I found on the way to the
beach today. Beautiful day, blue sky, shining sun, glistening water, pair of
underpants, crushed can, burnt out car, general household rubbish.
Thanks for providing me with a surplus of
interesting things to photograph with new camera, new lens (though not really
mine) and new attitude to the whole photography thing.
Digging in for the long haul now...

New Post
Moving forward with this project and finding new things all the time. I'm looking at Edward Muybridge and Sol Lewitt at the moment and there god almighty huge influence in the art world. Take it as bankable that I will be continuing this series with gusto and aiming for exhibition in a gallery space in the future.

Heading on to Head On - Two Chairs
Head On Photo Festival is again about to be upon us. Well, there is a call for proposals. Today a sneak peak at the work I am putting forward to be exhibited next year.
To be honest I had thought I may skip this year as I have shown in half a dozen exhibitions this year including my solo show in Head On, "The Distracted Sky". The time calling for proposals this year was remarkably short for Head On, and I have been considering putting in a proposal for a show in the Ballarat International Foto Biennale.
However browsing through my image folder I happened upon this idea of two chairs which I had apparently been collecting unconsciously and unawares. I like that.
The series speaks to the notion of companionship, loss and solitude. Two chairs sit patiently, quietly waiting for activity to acknowledge their existence. Alone yet watchfully keeping in place the environment, those who claim this space as their own and the time that passes un-noted and unnoticed.
I'll be dedicating this series, Two Chairs, to my Mum and Dad.

Fine Arts in Gosford
Feeling very fortunate again to have two photographs hanging in the Gosford Regional Art Galleries, Art Prize Exhibition. (That's a mouthful)
Please take the time to travel up, down or across to Gosford and have a look at the show. It is very good, and includes photography, ceramics, sculpture and even some painting.
Many exhibitors from TAFE Fine Arts, both staff and student, are represented in the exhibition, with one of our Hunter st teachers taking out the Best in Show ($10k) prize for a wonderful painting. Congratulations to Leslie Tilley.
Please do all the artists a favour and visit the show and support the Fine Arts, as there is not much support coming from our current state government. Shame Barry shame.

Finally...
Who would have thought that the Gosford Regional Art Prize would be hanging a photograph of the inside of a Galston toilet. I'm kinda pleased to say that I thought they might.
I took this image pretty much after just leaving the starting gate on the first leg of a road trip that took in Bathurst, Sofala, Hill End and Mudgee. (Not to mention our final stop on the side of the road just outside the Newcastle turnpike before the car was towed to a garage for recuperation and repairs)
This image will be hanging in the Gosford Regional Art Gallery from the 1st October until the 27th November. Please drop in and support the Gosford Regional Art Gallery (and me).
This is the second image I submitted for consideration to be hung in the Art Prize. An image I thought perhaps more likely to be hung than the image above. So pleased that I put 'The Wall' forward as it is more about where I am coming from these days. It's a good feeling that others can appreciate where I'm coming from as well. The image below is called 'Swimmer'.
I'd love to know which image you guys prefer if you'd care to comment.
